Dr. Jorge I. Dominguez - Writer and Retired Harvard Professor

Dr. Jorge I. Dominguez is a retired Harvard Professor who served as chair of the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies from 2004 to 2018. For nearly a decade, he also engaged as vice provost for international affairs and guided diverse academic and cross-border projects. In earlier years, Dr. Jorge I. Dominguez had twice chaired the Committee on Latin American and Iberian Studies. In his teaching he held the title of Antonio Madero Professor for the Study of Mexico.

With a research background on Cuba’s political economy, Jorge Dominguez has written numerous papers in his field. These include “Cuban Political Development,” (Oxford Bibliographies, Oxford University Press, 2019) and “La evolucion intelectual de los estudios cubanos en Estados Unidos,” (Revista Temas, 2019),

Among the courses Jorge Dominguez has instructed is the freshman seminar “Mexico: Revolution, Authoritarianism, and Democracy” He has also taught “Comparative Politics in Latin America,” “The Cuban Revolution,” and “Societies of the World.” Dr. Jorge I. Dominguez has engaged as visiting professor at El Colegio de Mexico and visiting senior fellow, Inter-American Dialogue. He currently commits his time to writing and publishing.
